Scott Tate – A Life of Integration
For more than thirty-five years, Scott Tate has worked as a Transpersonal Psychotherapist in private practice, as well as a teacher and workshop leader.
His path has brought together psychology, spirituality, body-based practice, qigong, shamanic traditions, and decades of direct experience — not as separate disciplines, but as influences that have progressively shaped the practitioner he is today.
The Early Foundation
Scott began his professional life teaching martial arts, an early discipline of attention, movement, body awareness, and sustained practice.
He earned a BA in History, Phi Beta Kappa, from Colorado State University and an MA in Counseling from Michigan State University.
His early professional work included counseling and student-life positions at Michigan State University, Olivet College, and the University of Pittsburgh’s Semester at Sea program, along with experience in forensic settings.
Scott entered private practice in 1990 and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 1993.
A Broader Orientation
From early in his career, Scott was drawn to transpersonal psychology and to questions of meaning, consciousness, spirituality, and human development.
The work of Carl Jung became an enduring influence. Scott has studied Jung directly for nearly three decades, particularly his understanding of the psyche as something alive, purposeful, and moving toward greater wholeness.
Over time, Scott’s professional and personal exploration expanded to include EMDR, hypnosis, dream work, somatic and mind-body practices, energy psychology, meditation, mindfulness, qigong, and shamanic practice.
Qigong and Shamanic Practice
For more than two decades, qigong and shamanic traditions have become significant parts of Scott’s path.
He is the founder of the Qigong Foundation of Colorado and the developer of Golden Staircase Qigong, a practice shaped through his study of classical qigong, ritual, intention, and relationship with the natural world.
Scott’s shamanic training has included formal study and experience with Indigenous healers and healing systems in North America, South America, and other regions of the world.
His understanding of this work has also been shaped by personal initiatory experiences that have informed the depth and direction of his practice.
Teaching
Teaching has been woven throughout Scott’s career.
He has taught classes, workshops, and retreats in qigong, meditation, shamanism, Jungian dream work, hypnosis, energy psychology, relational dynamics, and related areas of consciousness and personal development.
The Practice Today
Today, Scott’s practice reflects more than thirty-five years of psychological work and decades of study, teaching, spiritual exploration, and embodied practice.
He continues to work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and places while teaching and developing the practices that have emerged through his life’s work.
The integration has not happened all at once.
It has unfolded over a lifetime.
“Scott is a talented energy healer and a compassionate human being. In addition
to facilitating my personal transformation, I’m deeply appreciative of the
generational clearing and healing that has taken place.
Scott’s unique, blended approach creates a potent combination that I have found truly remarkable. I highly recommend him.”
— Private Client
“My work with Scott, both in person and remotely, has been nothing short of life-
changing. I have experienced profound layers of healing — emotional, spiritual,
and ancestral — through our sessions together.
Scott’s healing abilities are truly remarkable and can seem otherworldly in their
power and impact, yet he remains one of the most approachable, kind,
compassionate, and lighthearted human beings I have ever met.
I love that his focus is not about ascending beyond this human experience, but
rather about existing within it in the most deeply connected, open, and aware way possible.
Scott has done so much to guide me through this life journey that no words could
ever truly do it justice. I am forever grateful for his willingness to share his heart,
spirit, and medicine with the world in this lifetime.”
